The Butterfly Effect
The Butterfly Effect is a psychological thriller similar to ours. It is distributed by New Line Cinema which is owned by Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner. New Line Cinema is one of America’s major film studios and has distributed a variety of genre movies from horror film series Nightmare on Elm Street to epic fantasy trilogy The Lord of the Rings and many more.
The Eye
The Eye is similar to ours because of the storyline, but it is classed as a psychological/horror thriller whilst ours is just psychological thriller. The Eye was distributed by Lionsgate, a leading independent Canadian film distributor. They had distributed a range of films, and several popular horror films such as Drag Me To Hell and the Saw series
Taken
Taken is an Action thriller focussing on abduction, nothing like Reinventing Your Exit. It was distributed by 20th Century Fox, one of the 6 major film studios in America and has distributed many films including the epic film series Star Wars, one of the five highest grossing US movies of all time. 20 Century Fox is owned by News Corporation.
Our Distributor
We decided that our film would be quite low budget, so rather than having a major distributor like 20th Century Fox, we would settle for a relatively unknown independent distributor. As a group we decided that Pandora would be best suited to distribute our film. Pandora has distributed films such as the cult classic Donnie Darko. Donnie Darko was a low budget (4.5 million) psychological thriller similar to ours. We decided our budget would be a lot less than that, as there are no major actors, and no extravagant settings, everything would be filmed on location with unknown actors. Pandora would definitely be able to distribute our film as they have experience with distributing similar low budget thriller films.
